Wooohooo! Just thought I'd say that... Okay, about me... I'm retired military who is now working for the largest chip maker (not potato!). I started out as a fine arts/art education major back in the day, until I came to realize that the term 'starving artist' wasn't a phrase some wacky person just made up. It's taken me a lot of years to get back to doing some right brain stuff (work is all left brain, baby!) and I found that I really liked it. Welcome all to my little bit of cyberspace!
Music: None, I lost it all when I had to reformat my HD
Geez, all I wanted to do was add some memory and change out the power supply... What started out as a relatively simple task turned into something that would rival one of the labors of Hercules... I had a few extra bucks burning a hole in my pocket, so I decided to change out a 350 watt power supply for something with a little more oomph (a Spire 600W power supply with a kewl blue LED0 and to up my RAM memory from 2 to 3GB... Sounds simple, right?
Well, I get the memory in and the computer runs fine. Then I yank the wiring on the old PS and put in the new glowy PS. Fire the computer up... Kewl blue light, but the computer doesn't post. Okay, sez I, maybe it's something wrong with the vid card... So, back to the computer store where I just have to buy the NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT. I had the money, so why not? Back home and fire up the computer with the new vid card... Nothing. Back to the computer store, this time for a new heat sink, being now convinced the CPU is getting too hot, since I had to remove the heat sink to put the power cable back in. Put in the new heat sink... Nothing. I now get it in my head that it's the motherboard, so back to the computer store for a new MB... Oh, and while I'm at it, don't forget a new aluminum case (don't want the bugger to get overheated again). Back home and after an hour of putting things back together again, push the power button and... Nothing.
At this point, I'm into this thing for about $1000, so I pack up the whole thing and take it to the computer store. After an hour of messing with the bugger, the computer dieties there determined that the only thing that was wrong was one of the sticks of memory (remember that's where we started) was bad...
Bottom line is that I lost a bunch of art when I had to reload Winblows (luckily I had backed everything up last week so it wasn't too bad...)and spent WAY more than I wanted to, all because of a lousy stick of memory.
